The Syrian Arab Army has repelled the rebel offensive in west Aleppo today, as their forces not only halted Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham’s advance, but also, launched their own offensive.
Led by their Republican Guard forces, the Syrian Arab Army stormed several points in the Al-Zahra’a and Layramoun quarters of west Aleppo; this led to a fierce battle between their forces and the rebels of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham.
According to local sources in Aleppo, the Syrian Arab Army has made some preliminary gains at the Layramoun axis; however, it is still too early to tell whether or not they will be able to maintain control of this area.
While this assault is likely to yield no significant progress, the purpose of this counter-offensive is to test the rebel defense in west Aleppo and deter any more attacks in the near the future.
