Syrian Army Attacks US Aircraft in Northeast Syria

A unit of the Syrian Special Forces targeted a U.S. reconnaissance aircraft flying over their positions in northeastern Syria, a military source reported to YemenExtra this evening.

The U.S. reconnaissance aircraft was reportedly hovering over the Syrian Army’s Regiment 54 Base in Al-Qamishli, when the army men at the installation opened fire on the plane.

The aircraft fled the region around the base after it came in confrontation with the Syrian Arab Army on Saturday evening, the military source confirmed.

Today’s confrontation in Al-Qamishli district in Al-Hasakah governorate marks the first time since Friday that the U.S. and Syrian forces have faced one another directly.
