The Russian military reportedly deployed to the in the northeastern countryside of Damascus, particularly Dumayr Airbase, on Tuesday to increase the security around the Syrian capital.
While Russian advisers were already present at this airbase in east Damascus, the recent inflow of military personnel to the Dumayr Plain is likely to coincide with the U.S. Air Force’s recent attack on the Shayrat Airport in southeast Homs.
The Dumayr Airbase is a fundamental installation that has come attack by Daesh and rebel forces on numerous occasions in the past; its proximity to the Syrian capital makes it a complementary site for the government.
Since the emergence of the Daesh forces in the eastern slopes of the Qalamoun Mountains, the Syrian Arab Army and rebel units in the region have agreed to a non-aggression pact; this makes it easier to put the terrorist group of Daesh under the spotlight thus securing the territory.
