Edris Jaza`eri, United Nations Special Rapporteur for international sanctions and human rights, said on Tuesday , that the blockade ,which have been imposed on Yemen by Saudi-led Coalition since 2015, should be lifted described it as arbitrary and illegal.
Jaza`eri said in a statement ” there have been unjustified restrictions to admittance the commercial and humanitarian goods and services to Yemen”, calling to allow the relief items reach to people in Yemen.
He stressed the need to lift the embargo imposed on Yemen immediately to allow access of relief materials and address the humanitarian disaster that threatens millions of starving Yemenis.
The Special Rapporteur explained that the air and sea closures imposed on Yemen since March 2015 by the coalition forces have restricted the import and export of food, fuel, medical supplies and humanitarian assistance, described it as one of the main causes of this humanitarian catastrophe.
supported by the U.S. and British governments, the coalition has been largely criticized by human rights watchdogs for imposing besiege on Yemen, which have killed children and women in Yemen.
Three international organizations working in Yemen have confirmed that food security has deteriorated since the recent analysis of the interim classification carried out in June 2016, pointing out that this could be worse if the port of Hodeidah was targeted.
