According to Yemeni Ministry of Commerce and industry data, approximately 200 production facilities have been targeted by the Saudi-led coalition. The air, sea and land siege imposed by the Saudi war also stopped the production lines of many factories.
Investigation indicates that the coalition targeted food facilities, medical facilities, medicines, iron installations and construction materials, including the Amran cement factory, which was crowded with workers and the sounds of manufacturing machines. The Saudi bombardment aiming at the factory caused a total of 1500 workers now jobless.
The estimated figures stated that about 54 thousand were directly affected by targeting the factory and inhibiting its production.
Amran Cement Factory has been a major target of the Saudi bombs as the coalition demolished the already weak Yemeni infrastructure. The mentioned huge factory has been subjected to direct and indirect obstacles. The act of production was severely influenced in the middle of 2016 by about 142 million dollars. At least 15 killed and 45 wounded civilians were victim employees working in the factory after a Saudi strike, and that was “a major disaster”, according to Yahya Abu Halifa, director general of the factory.
For his part, under secretary of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Abdul-Ilah Sheiban, said that thousands of employees have lost their jobs in various private and public factories, leading to major losses in the social situation in general and in the productive situation. Multiple factories have been highly affected, mostly because of the 3 year-long economic siege on Yemen.
He concluded saying that Yemen has a future in economy as it possesses large reserves of raw materials required globally.
