Hundreds of the Syrian Arab Army soldiers arrived in the Palmyra countryside yesterday, a military source reported this morning.

The soldiers were deployed from the coastal provinces of Tartous and Latakia to the Palmyra battlefront, where they are expected to support the 5th Legion in a new military operation around this ancient desert city.

No details were given regarding the military operation, but it is very likely that the Syrian Arab Army will attempt advancing from east of Palmyra towards the strategic town of Al-Sukhnah.

Al-Sukhnah is a strategic town located along the main highway to the Deir Ezzor Governorate. The Syrian Arab Army will be capable of ending the two year long siege on the province if captured.
