Yemeni Media Union Launches a Tweet Campaign Against Saudi Violations on World Press Freedom Day

As the Saudi war now entering its third year of war on the impoverished country of Yemen, it has reportedly committed various violations against Yemeni press.

In a way to response, the Yemeni Media Union are to launch a tweet campaign today evening at 8:00 am.

The head of the Union of Yemeni Journalists, Abdullah Sabri, said that “the campaign takes place to expose the crimes and violations perpetrated by the Saudi-led coalition against Yemeni journalists. In addition, the campaign is to confirm that the YMU demands the trial of the murderers of journalists in Yemen due to Saudi airstrikes.”

According to a report released by the YMU, the violations of press and crimes committed against its employees are as follows:

The violations against Yemeni journalists increased since last year by 133 direct violations, including:

1. More than 60 cases of murder.

2. At least 9 wounded by the coalition.

3. About 4 cases of cloning

4.12 cases of destruction of installations

5.15 cases of blocking and broadcasting channels on the satellites Arabsat and Nilesat .

In addition, the media report of 2017 identified fifty journalists working for the military media who were killed and 7 from the national media, including four media journalists working in favor of Almasirah satellite channel, as well as two others injured.

The Yemeni military media aka “Al Elam Al-Harbi” aims at documenting losses inflicted by the Saudi forces and achievements of the Yemeni joint military in battlefields.

The Yemeni channel of Al-Masirah has also been exposed to blocking as well as cloning several times. Moreover, more than 28 Almasirah accounts were closed on the social networking site of YouTube. Furthermore, the application of the channel has been eliminated from the Google Play market.
