Yemenis launched on Sunday the “food and medicine march” beginning from the United Nations headquarters in the capital Sana’a aimed at reaching Hodeidah Province, where the only left lifeline is located; Hodeidah Port.
Residents of the southern provinces called for the march and ended up having the participation of more than 2000 persons, among them are men, women as well as children.
“The march demands for issuing a UN resolution criminalizing the targeting of the port of Hodeidah and the immediate withdrawal from Yemeni territorial waters, as well as lifting the siege on Hodeidah port and reopening of Sana’a international airport.”, stated Hussein Zeid bin Yahya, head of the preparatory committee.
On the other hand, a member of the media committee for the march of food and medicine, Izz al-Din al-Sharabi, said that the march will reflect the unity of Yemen on the day of its actual unity, the 22nd of May.
“There is no difference between north and south, particularly regarding the harm obtained from the Saudi-led coalition and its brutal war”, he spoke to YemenExtra.
“The insistence of the US-backed Saudi coalition on targeting the lifeline, Hodeidah Port, will severely affect all of Yemenis, with no exceptions.”, he continued.
Moreover, a statement issued by the march expressed its urge of requesting the UN to criminalize any act of damage to the Hodeidah Port, and the immediate retreat of the forces of the Saudi-led coalition form the Yemeni territorial waters.
