Numerous of protesters demonstrated in Manama, Sunday, after Bahrain’s leading cleric was sentenced to a one year suspended jail term for money laundering and and accusations over unlawful financial operations.
The Shi’it cleric, Ayatollah Sheikh ‘Issa Qassem, has been imprisoned by the Al-Khalifa regime for several months, following accusations that the prominent cleric took part in illegal financial activities.
However, many Bahraini human rights activists believe the Al-Khalifa regime fabricated such indictments against Sheikh Qassim of committing crimes in order to suppress his outspoken criticism of their government.
