Yemenis March From UN Headquarters to Sana’a Intl. Airport to Demand Lifting the Imposed Blockade

The United Nations envoy, Ismail Ould Cheikh, arrived at Sana’a airport on Monday, during which the protesters called on the United Nations to lift the siege imposed on the Yemeni people and the reopening of Sana’a International Airport.

The march, organized by the Supreme Council of Civil Society Organizations, took part in the streets of the capital Sana’a, beginning from the UN headquarters, until reaching Sana’a International Airport.

The participants condemned the silence of the United Nations, calling it as shameful, who “turned a blind eye toward the Yemeni people suffering from the siege obliged by the Saudi-led coalition.”

They called for a rapid lifting of the ban on Sana’a International Airport to rescue the lives of patients who needed to travel abroad and for stranded people to return to their homeland.

A statement issued by the march said that the imposition of an air embargo on Sana’a International Airport by the Saudi-led coalition stands behind the catastrophic conditions and the death of a number of patients who required treatment abroad. In addition, the movement of exports and imports has been halted, causing the lack of medicines and worsening the “worst humanitarian crisis in the world”, as described by the UN.

Participants also complained of having their airport unlawfully bombarded by the Saudi-led coalition warplanes, resulting in huge materialistic losses.
