Violent clashes erupted early morning near the strategic Ithriyah-Khanssir road when Daesh militants waged a surprise attack on government forces’ positions.
According to a military source, the rebels attacked the region in an attempt to cut off the main supply route to the northern city of Aleppo. However, the source affirmed that the road remained completely operational as the attack took place in a relatively distant area.
The 6-hour long battle has failed to grant the terrorists any significant gains on ground as the government troops managed to entirely repel the offensive.
Up to 20 rebels were killed in the unsuccessful assault in addition to 3 machinegun-mounted trucks demolished. The Syrian forces were also able to capture a vehicle loaded with ammunition for the terror group.
As for the government forces, 3 troops were killed, while 7 others got wounded defending the area.
