The figures, revealed by the organization in its own format, indicate that the number of deaths caused by “cholera” has increased by about 50 percent since the last update of the organization’s figures on May 27, Yemen Press reported.
Figures from the World Health Organization of the period from April 27 to June 4 showed that there were 86,422 suspected cholera cases in 19 of Yemen’s 23 governorates.
The increase was attributed, among other things, to “improved reporting procedures”.
On May 29, 471 people died as of May 27 in Yemen, with 51,832 suspected cases, the WHO said. “It appears that the second wave of this outbreak has not reached the peak yet.”
The outbreak began in October, growing to December, then declining but without complete control, before a new surge in cases began in April.
The most affected provinces are Sanaa, Hajja, Amran and Hodeidah, which included more than 53 percent of the reported cases since April 27.
