The Ministry of Public Health and Population said on Sunday that international organizations have not fulfilled their commitments to relief and support the health sector and to cope with the cholera epidemic in the country.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for the therapeutic medicine sector, Dr. Nasser Al-Arjali said: “The international organizations announced an international distress in October 2016 to request support of 22 million dollars to enable Yemen to combat the first wave of cholera epidemic at the time and raise readiness for any other wave, But the international community has not responded to more than 15 percent of that need, which reached the World Health Organization and UNICEF.
Undersecretary blamed the international community and humanitarian organizations for the collapse of the health system and the outbreak of cholera in Yemen because of the targeting by the Coalition of Aggression, depriving millions of Yemenis of access to medical services as a human right guaranteed by all international laws and regulations.
Dr. Al-Arjali explained that the health sector in Yemen was affected in all its aspects due to the aggression and the siege, from preventing the entry of drugs through targeting health facilities, electricity and fuel absence to the migration of physicians, increasing needs and lack of financial resources.
He pointed out that the silence of the international community towards the suffering of the health sector in Yemen, especially in the face of cholera, led to the continued aggravation of the situation and the increasing cases and deaths, where the number of suspected cases to more than 100 thousand cases.
