A few days ago, the United Nations warned the Saudi-led coalition against any attempt to extend the war to the Yemeni port of Hodeidah, which is considered as a vital point on the Red Sea to deliver aid and receives about 80 percent of Yemen’s food imports.
This statement is really important after that the UN Security Council has consistently keep a blind eye to Saudi crimes against the Yemeni people over the past two years ,claining that it wanted to restore the regime of the fuigitve former President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi to power in Yemen.
The Hodeidah port is the only Yemeni port to be used to deliver humanitarian aid to the Yemeni people. Earlier, the Saudi coalition aircraft destroyed five cranes, forcing dozens of vessels to line up off the coast of Hodeidah because they could not be unloaded.
UN reports confirm that more than 17 million people in Yemen are in desperate need of food and medical assistance. The new head of the World Food Program, David Paisley, said that Yemen is currently suffering from famine and severe shortages of food and medicines. If the port of Hodeidah is closed, a humanitarian catastrophe can be predicted.
