On Monday, tank crews stood face-to-face against each other in the desert between Homs and Deir Ezzor as the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) took control of a string of rapid encroachments upon Daesh-held territory near the T2 Airbase.
During the combats, at least one SAA tank was knocked out by a AGS-17 “Plamya” grenade launcher that struck from afar. Daesh commanders also deployed a number of tanks and technical persons to slow down the advance of the 5th Legion’s mechanized formations whose armored vehicles greatly outnumber rebel belligerents.
On the other hand, the SAA obliterated two Daesh car bombs and wiped out upwards of 50 Daesh rebels during clashes across the far eastern Homs frontline.
Due to the most recent push, the SAA is within 90 kilometers of Deir Ezzor, a beleaguered eastern city which has been subject to a full-blown Daesh siege since the year of 2014.
