Monaseroon Foundation for Rights and Freedoms along with Civil conglomerate for development and freedoms have expressed concern about the local and international reports that indicate to human rights violations committed by Emirati forces and the affiliated militia in the south of Yemen against Yemeni citizens detained in “secret detention centers”, which run by the Emirati forces and the affiliated militia.
Two organizations said in a statement released on Saturday ” Several reports including reports of Human Rights Watch stated that: “The UAE is reported to run some of these detention facilities and to have moved high-profile detainees outside the country, including to a base it has in Eritrea.” and that: “The Security Belt and Hadrami Elite forces have used excessive force during arrests and raids, detained family members of wanted suspects to pressure them to “voluntarily” turn themselves in, arbitrarily arrested and detained men and boys, detained children with adults, and forcibly disappeared dozens.”
they condemn these inhumane practices that violate international human rights laws criminalizing these practices, adding ” we are surprised that the U.A.E and its forces in Yemen commit these inhumane practices that oppose completely the rationalizations the U.A.E government used and promoted to intervene in Yemen.”
They confirmed that violations add a new chapter to the Yemeni people’s sufferance story in the last three years. As we express our solidarity with the detainees’ families, calling that all respective entities conduct an urgent and transparent investigation into these violations and reveal the fate of detainees.
Also they urged international community, regional and international human rights institutions to take their moral responsibility and exert pressure on the Emirati government to stop these violations and to refer all individuals involved in these violations to justice.
Two organizations called on all warring sides in Yemen to respect human rights principles especially the four Geneva conventions and the additional protocols and to respect prisoners and detainees’ rights outlined in these conventions.
