A wave of suicide attacks struck the Syrian capital early morning as government forces carry on a wide-scale offensive in the northeastern suburbs of Jobar and Ayn Tarma.
Two vehicles exploded close to the Airport Roundabout based in the far eastern flanks of Damascus while the third one reached central downtown. Chased by security forces, the suicide bomber blew up his vehicle in al-Tahrir Square.
The explosions killed 19 and wounded at least 20 others, mostly civilians.
According to the stat-run TV, the casualty toll was minimized as the security forces obstructed “the terrorists from reaching their targets of overcrowded regions on the first day after the Eid al-Fitr holiday.”
The suicide attacks come as the Syrian Army resumes its military operation in the northeastern suburbs, planning to retaking the long-lasting rebel-controlled Jobar and Ayn Tarma.
