Up to 11 rebel fighters who were active in the northwestern province of Idlib have given up their weapons to the Syrian authorities and left the rebel bastion to government-controlled city of Hama.
Local sources reported that the rebel fighters – who belong to FSA-affiliated factions – first contacted the Russian Center for Reconciliation which is responsible for easing the processes for all individuals and groups willing to reconcile with the Syrian government.
The same sources cited the surrendered rebels as saying that there are great numbers of fighters who are willing to lay down their weapons and have their status settled but they are afraid of the ruling rebel group Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham.
“The HTS won’t think twice before shooting dead any fighter willing to make up with the government,” one of the surrendered militants stated.
