The United Nations humanitarian coordinator in Yemen acknowledged the existence of a conflict in the humanitarian and political work of the United Nations regarding Yemen and the need to put an end to the Yemeni deteriorating situation.
At a press conference held by the Office of the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Sana’a on Thursday (July 8th) to discuss the developments of the cholera epidemic and plans to confront it, he responded to a question addressed by Yemeni Almasirah channel, saying that a state of contradiction takes place where humanitarian organizations launch constant warnings regarding ongoing war and siege and calls for their immediate end, the political aspect benefits from the successive dilemmas witnessed by the country to serve the interests of the Saudi-led coalition.
“As for the question of schizophrenia in the humanitarian and political aspects of the United Nations, I think the condition is as you have mentioned, a medical one, and it needs a medicine,” said the Humanitarian Coordinator.
At the press conference, McGoldrick also called for lifting restrictions on the arrival of humanitarian aid to Yemen to cope with a cholera epidemic as Yemen’s health system collapses, and to avoid the state of hunger looming, as well as to remove restrictions on the port of Hodeidah. Moreover, he stressed on the necessity of reopening of Sana’a airport and to provide salary payments for state employees.
Furthermore, Sana’a, capital of Yemen, announced last June that it had stopped dealing with the United Nations’ UN envoy, Ismail Wald Sheikh, describing him an unfair mediator, and refusing to receive him in Sana’a.
The people of Yemen called on the UN Secretary-General to choose a neutral mediator instead.
