“The health system in Yemen has completely collapsed, and millions of Yemenis are suffering daily to survive. Millions of Yemenis also drink contaminated water,” said Under Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Stephen O’Brien.

Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on the situation in Yemen, Stephen O’Brien said Yemeni health care workers had not received their salaries for a whole year, noting that the health system has fully crumbled  in Yemen.

O’Brien said his organization needs funding to increase humanitarian aid to the Yemeni people. “I wish I would not repeat my briefing about the humanitarian deterioration in front of you,” he said.

Furthermore, he pointed out that 20 million Yemenis depend on humanitarian assistance, stressing that stability is essential to ensure delivery of cholera vaccines to thousands of Yemenis.
