The General Hospital of Dhamar has launched an urgent SOS call to local and international health and humanitarian organizations in order to save the lives of more than 200 renal failure patients benefiting from the dialysis center.
The head of Dhamar General Hospital, Dr. Jamal Hassan al-Shami, said that the kidney dialysis center is facing great difficulties due to lack of basic materials necessary required to conduct dialysis sessions for patients who go to the center to benefit from its services.
He pointed out that the patients of kidney failure in the governorate of Dhamar are increasing, which is a great burden on the center as it is the only center present in the governorate, and it receives dozens of cases, including displaced persons from neighboring governorates.
Dr. Shami appealed to the World Health Organization, the International Committee of the Red Cross, Médecins Sans Frontières and all local and international health and humanitarian organizations to quickly intervene and provide assistance to save the lives of patients with renal failure.
He also pointed out that the Dhamar hospital has launched during July of this year more than one emergency call to organizations to get their support for the dialysis center, however; it did not receive any response.
Moreover, he underscored that the center is threatened to stop working completely and will close its doors to patients within 48 hours if the organizations did not intervene and rushed to provide medicines and medical solutions for patients’ dialysis sessions.
Finally, he stated that the cessation of work in the center means that the lives of 200 patients will be at risk and are subjected to early complications and sudden deaths at any given moment. He went on and pointed out that many will be unable to receive treatment in private dialysis centers due to the high cost they demand.
