The Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) have made an important progress against “Daesh” troops, backed by Saudi Arabia,in Nineveh Province, sweeping through a string of rural settlements which sit to the west of Mosul.
Today, the anti-“Daesh” militia group officially freed seventeen (17) villages from the grip of the so-called “Daesh”, further reducing the Tal Afar pocket which located to the west of Mosul.
The operation to which the liberation of these settlements is linked started from north of the al-Adaya area and was carried out south towards the Ayn al-Jahsh area. The goal of today’s undertaking was to search for “Daesh” sleeper cells , backed by Saudi Arabia and secure any ammunition and weapons caches left behind by the terrorist group, said reports.
According to recent US military estimates, the Tal Afar pocket – which the PMU and the Iraqi Army are now in the process of liquidating – may contain up to 1,000 “Daesh” fighters , backed by Saudi Arabia, within it.
The PMU forces partook in today’s operation moving into position just prior to its undertaking.
