The Syrian Arab Army – backed by allied forces – has repelled a fierce attack waged by Daesh earlier today near it’s positions deep in the Syrian Desert.
According to a military source, the group suffered heavy losses as the government forces managed to kill several ISIS militants, seize 8 vehicles and 3 machinegun-fitted trucks, as well as demolish vehicles.
ISIS conducted the offensive in bid to isolate the Army troops in al-Sukhnah; the group’s last major stronghold which had fallen to the Syrian Army a few days ago.
The attack was focused on Hamimah; a town based deep in the Syrian Desert near the administrative borders with Homs and Deir Ezzor.
Meanwhile, government troops continue to progress in the eastern countryside of Raqqa and have expanded their control along the northern borders of Deir Ezzor.
