The Sana’a International Airport has called for the immediate opening of Sana’a International Airport in Sana’a, headed by Minister of Public Health and Population Dr. Mohammed Salem bin Hafiz.

The group, which includes the Ministries of Public Health, Water and Environment, World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, condemned in a joint statement the continued closure of the airport for civilian flights.

“One year after the closure of the airport, the condition of the patients worsened and the number of deaths increased as a result of their inability to travel abroad for treatment,” the group said.

The group considered the closure to be contrary to international and humanitarian law and increased the suffering of patients in dire need of travel and treatment.

The statement pointed out that delaying the opening of Sana’a International Airport and not allowing flights to and from the airport cause an increase in the number of deaths from patients.

Moreover, the group called on the international community and the Security Council to compel the Saudi-led coalition to open the airport urgently.

The Norwegian Refugee Council said that the number of Yemenis who died for not being able to travel for medical care due  to the closure of Sana’a Airport exceeded the number of people killed by Saudi airstrikes.
