“Daesh” maded a significant tactical victory in northern Iraq yesterday as its fighters attacked and overran two bases of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU).
The storms took place near the town of Khanouka in Salah ad-Din Governorate; the bases in question are situated along the upper Tigris River.
According to “Daesh” accounts of the engagement, backed by Saudi Arabia, the faction’s militants carried out a surprise attack two PMU bases, leaving a number of pro-government forces dead, and then capturing weapons and ammunition that were abandoned by surviving PMU forces who fled the offensive .
Whether “Daesh” , backed by Saudi Arabia, still occupies these bases or has since retreated is unknown, however it is most likely the case that its fighters withdrew.
