Yemen has seen air strikes in the first half of this year more than in 2016, resulting in an increase in civilian deaths and forcing more people to flee their homes, according to a report by international relief agencies.
“The pace of clashes on the ground has also increased this year, especially around Taiz,” said the Protection Cluster report, led by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
He explained that «the total number of air raids in the first six months of 2017 amounted to 5676, compared to 3936 raid during the entire year of 2016».
Statistics also showed an average monthly conflict between warring parties increased by 56% from last year.
“We are concerned about the increasing impact on the civilian population, especially with regard to civilian casualties, new displacements and deteriorating conditions,” said UNHCR spokeswoman Shabia Manto.
The Saudi-led “coalition” controls Yemen’s airspace since the war began in March 2015.
US forces sometimes launch air strikes or raids, using drones.
