The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced on Sunday that 10 million Yemeni children need an urgent assistance as a result of the conflict in the country.

“The conflict in Yemen is exacerbating the basic needs of civilians, especially children,” the office of (OCHA) said on its Facebook page.

According to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF),  there are about 150,000 children under the age of five that have been infected with cholera in Yemen since the outbreak of the epidemic on April 27 last Sunday.

The UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Stephen O’Brien, said the situation in Yemen is getting worse and an urgent humanitarian assistance must take place to provide the needs for 19 million people, which represent more than two-thirds of Yemen’s population.

The Saudi-led coalition has caused the death of more than ten thousand citizens and injured tens of thousands. Additionally, it has demolished most of the infrastructure in the country, according to the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen, Jimmy McGoldrick.
