The (ISIS) aka Daesh leadership has abandoned their capital city in eastern Syria following the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) recent progress in the Deir Ezzor Governorate, Al-Mayadeen News Agency reported this morning.
While this has not been confirmed, it is widely believed that the ISIS leader, Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, has left Al-Mayadeen for the border-city of Albukamal.
Furthermore, pro-government social media pages have reported over the last 48 hours that Al-Mayadeen city is empty of citizens; however, this is once again unconfirmed.
The Syrian Arab Army entered Al-Mayadeen on Friday after progressing south along the strategic Mayadeen-Deir Ezzor Highway, putting them at the northern and western gates of the city.
