UN: The International Community Must Respond Immediately to the Yemeni Crisis

The Assistant of the United Nation’s Secretary-General; Regional Director of the United Nations Development Program in the Arab region, Murad Wahba, called on Saturday the international community to respond to the Yemeni challenge immediately and responsibly.
“The Yemeni crisis is the biggest crisis in the world at the moment and the international community must respond to this challenge immediately and responsibly,” Wahba said in a statement at the end of his first two-day visit to Yemen.
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) continued to focus urgently on supporting the resilience of communities affected by ongoing wars as well as supporting early recovery efforts, including improving livelihoods and providing basic services to society.
He pointed out that his visit to Yemen took place to assure personally and closely the ability and readiness of our office in Yemen to increase its efforts and support the Yemeni people.
“We work side by side with the rest of the United Nations organizations in the country with our partners to coordinate efforts in order to build community resilience and preserve national capacities to alleviate the suffering of the affected population,” said Murad Wahba.
During the visit, the Regional Director of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in the Arab region met with government officials who highly valued the program’s ability to survive during the crisis in the country despite the difficulties that forced many other international organizations to suspend their work in Yemen.
He noted that he received many requests to increase the efforts of the program in supporting the livelihood of Yemeni citizens and providing basic services to affected communities.
