The US-backed ‘Maghaweer Al-Thawra’ (Free Syrian Army group) claimed, on Saturday morning, to have apprehended five ISIS militants after they tried to approach the Al-Tanf zone in southeastern Homs.

According to the FSA, the escaped Daesh fighters got away from their outpost near the Euphrates River and somehow bypassed the Syrian Arab Army frontier positions along the provincial border with Deir Ezzor.

The thumbnail shows weaponry and ammunition that were seized during the arrest; another source claimed the ISIS militants objective was to surrender themselves to the FSA rather than face certain death at the hands of the SAA.

Due to a successful SAA offensive earlier this year, FSA fighters at the Al-Tanf region no longer share a front line with Daesh, raising serious questions over why the US Army has decided to stay put there.
