Grand Ayatollah calls on all Iraqi groups to hand over weapons to government after ISIL’s defeat

The Grand Ayatollah ‘Ali Al-Sistani issued a statement on Friday that called on all Iraqi groups to hand over their weapons to the government forces.

Ayatollah Sistani congratulated Iraq on its victory over the Islamic State (ISIS), while also encouraging the Iraqi paramilitaries to hand over their weapons as a sign of good faith with the federal government.

Recently, Iraq’s Hashd Al-Sha’abi announced that they were dissolving their political and military wings in order to show support for the federal government.

Earlier this month, the Iraqi military was able to eliminate the Islamic State’s last pocket in western Iraq, allowing them to declare complete victory over the terrorist group.
