The Foreign Ministry in Sana’a considered on Saturday the decision of the German Federal Security Council an important and responsible step, which stated the cessation of granting permits to sell German weapons to the Saudi-led coalition as it participates in the war against Yemen.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement received by the Yemeni news agency Saba that this step comes within the framework of the outcome of preliminary talks of the German parties to form a new governing coalition and constitute an important message within the framework of the friendly EU countries.
He pointed out that this step shows that the international community has been strained by the practices and violations practiced by the Saudi-led coalition against the Yemeni people for more than a thousand days of war, which led to the worst humanitarian catastrophe that the modern world has known.
The source expressed the hope that the German decision to stop the sale of weapons to the countries of coalition is a positive step along with the decision of the Kingdom of Norway earlier, which falls within the real efforts to proceed in the way of support of a political solution and a peaceful settlement sponsored by the United Nations. Moreover, a peaceful settlement can be accomplished by ceasing the military activities and lifting the Saudi air, sea and land siege by starting genuine peace negotiations bringing together all the parties.
Furthermore, the source pointed out that such steps still need international support and commitment to the approach of peace, especially by those countries that still provide the Saudi-led coalition with weapons, ammunition and explosives, as well as logistical support and intelligence provided by the US administration and the British government.
The source also reiterated Yemen’s political leadership’s approach to achieving a just and honorable peace and ensuring the security and stability of the region, including the safety of the international shipping line in the southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
The German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said yesterday that the German Federal Security Council stopped granting permits to sell German weapons to the countries of the Saudi-led coalition that are participating in the war on Yemen.
