Follow up information just released by opposition sources regarding a huge car bomb attack that occurred in the southwestern Syrian province of Daraa on Monday reveals that a top regional commander for the Al-Qaeda affiliate group Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra) has lost his life in the blast.
Early on Monday, an unknown party conducted a powerful car bomb attack against the Al-Rubaii rebel checkpoint base in eastern Daraa province that was manned at the time by both Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham and Free Syrian Army fighters.
However among the dead is a very high-ranking rebel leader, one Abu Hamza Ghadiyah, a Jordanian national who was (until his very recent departure) Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham’s commander for all of southern Syria; four of his personal bodyguards were also killed in the attack.
Updates to follow.
