Yemen’s Government Welcomed New UN Envoy to Yemen

Yemen’s government ,on Friday, welcomed the UN Secretary-General’s decision to appoint Martin Griffith as Britain’s new envoy to Yemen, replacing Mauritanian Ismail Ould Cheikh.

Official news agencies quoted a source in Yemen’s Foreign Ministry as welcoming Griffith’s appointment, noting the latter’s long experience in negotiations and peaceful conflict resolution.

The source reiterated that the Supreme Political Council and the Government of National Salvation, with a just and honorable peace for the people of Yemen, who recorded a steadfastness in facing coaliton.

The source added that the new special envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Yemen will receive the necessary support and facilities from the competent authorities in order to achieve the desired objectives in stopping the aggression, lifting the siege, normalization of the situation and stop interventions that affect the sovereignty of Yemen,as well as contribute to the return of security and stability to Yemen.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told the Security Council of his decision to appoint British special envoy Martin Griffith as Yemen’s successor to Ismail Ould Cheikh, who failed to bring the parties to the conflict back to the negotiating table.
