The Ministry of Human Rights organized a consultative meeting on “The reality of Yemeni women in armed conflicts” on the occasion of International Women’s Day in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
The meeting reviewed the report of the Ministry of Human Rights on the reality of Yemeni women in the face of armed conflicts between the scale of the humanitarian disaster and the human losses of women, as well as the damage suffered by the infrastructure and other sectors which directly affected the loss of various basic rights and freedoms for the Yemeni people in general and women in particular.
The report tackles the challenges facing the national mechanisms for serving women’s issues and their rights as a result of the practices of the Saudi-led coalition, which directly impede the ability of state institutions to fulfill their duties to ensure the rights of women and guarantee Yemen’s obligations in accordance with international charters and treaties.
The meeting recommended the need to establish an independent and impartial international commission to investigate the facts and the various crimes and violations committed against the Yemeni people and their potentials.
The recommendations called on the Security Council to play its role in referring the aggressor states, perpetrators of war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity, as well as the crime of violating Yemen’s sovereignty to international courts.
Moreover, they stressed on the need to activate the offices of the United Nations in Yemen in order to play its humanitarian role and assume responsibility for the humanitarian disaster suffered by the Yemeni people in general and women in particular since the beginning of the Saudi-led war in March 2015.
The recommendations also stressed on the need to invite international organizations and interested media to visit the Republic of Yemen to investigate the facts, crimes and violations committed against civilians and civilian and cultural objects.
The recommendations called on civil society organizations to provide assistance and legal and humanitarian assistance to those affected among women, children and others.
