Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami called on the Netherlands to use its influence in international bodies to help end a Saudi-led military campaign against people of Yemen.

In a meeting with the ambassador of the Netherlands to Iran, Susana Trestal, on Tuesday, General Hatami denounced the international community’s double standards when it comes to the humanitarian crisis and war in Yemen.

He called on the Netherlands, a non-permanent UN Security Council member, and on the other UNSC members to push for an end to the massacre of Yemeni people by Saudi Arabia.

The defense minister also rejected the US allegation that Iran has sent missiles to Yemen, saying the Arab country is under a harsh blockade that makes even delivery of foodstuff or medication impossible.

He further made it clear that Iran will keep boosting its deterrent and defense capabilities, while it respects the territorial integrity and sovereignty of other nations.

For her part, the ambassador voiced the Netherlands’ willingness to enhance defense ties with Iran.

Amsterdam favors peace and security all over the world, she added.

Iranian officials have repeatedly called on European countries to take action to stop killing of Yemeni people in a Saudi-led military campaign that has been ongoing since March 2015.

Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in Yemen for nearly three years to restore power to fugitive former president Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi, an ally of Riyadh.

Over 14,000 Yemenis, including thousands of women and children, have lost their lives by the deadly military campaign of US-Saudi coalition.
