“The tragic war in Yemen must stop if we want this unprecedented humanitarian crisis to end,” EU mission head Antonia Calvo Puerta said.
“The Yemeni people are suffering greatly from this war, which has caused one of the worst humanitarian disasters,” she added.
She noted that her second visit to Sana’a comes as part of the European Union’s efforts to communicate with all parties in order to encourage them to engage in talks and find a lasting political settlement as well as the delivery of a number of humanitarian character messages.
She confirmed in a press statement that the European Union supports UN efforts to reach a lasting political settlement of the crisis in Yemen, and calls on all parties to engage in good intentions with the efforts of the Special Envoy of the United Nations, Martin Griffiths.
The statement said that the European Union is committed to supporting Yemen and its people as it has risen humanitarian aid since the beginning of the conflict to 196 million euros .. pointing out that it will invest 71 million additional euros this year in projects for the displaced and the promotion of human rights, in addition to strengthening the resilience of rural communities and agricultural protection.
