Syria comes under US, British and French military attack 

US, British and French military forces have launched, on Friday evening, air strikes against multiple places in Syria despite international warnings against further escalation of the situation

US officials said that Tomahawk cruise missiles and other types of bombs were used in the attack

Trump said in a televised address from the White House said ” a short time ago, I ordered the United States Armed Forces to launch precision strikes on targets associated with the chemical weapons capabilities of Syria”

British Prime Minister Theresa May also said she authorized the British armed forces to conduct coordinated and targeted strikes, noting, “I have done so because I judge this action to be in Britain’s national interest”

Likewise, French President Emanuel Macron also claimed the strikes target Syria’s capability to launch chemical attacks

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said, “Damascus has come under attack by the US, France and the UK at a time when Syria is returning to peaceful life, after battling a terrorist aggression for years”

She blamed “all those who claim moral leadership in this world, who declare their exceptionalism” for the attack, noting that “you should be really exceptional” to attack Syria at a time “when it was given a chance for a peaceful future.” She added

Syria has strongly rejected any role in the suspected attack, which came just as the Syrian army was about to declare full victory against the militants operating in the region

The Russian Defense Ministry said “none of the missiles that were launched by the US and its allies entered Russian air defense zones that protect facilities in Tartus and Khmeimim”
