Yemen Foreign Ministry warned that attack on a vehicle belonging to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), deliberate and aimed to limit the work of humanitarian organizations in Yemen
Red Cross spokesman, Ralph Al-Hajj, on Saturday expressed the Red Cross fear of the consequences of the criminal action that targeted his team in Taiz
“We are afraid of the consequences of this criminal act against our team in Taiz,” said spokesman in an interview with Al-Masirah satellite channel. “We are also afraid of repeating these incidents because of the security chaos in Taiz
Earlier in the day, the International Red Cross team was attacked by armed groups linked to the attack, killing one of the team members, Lebanese, and injuring others
Lahoud was in charge of the ICRC’s detention program in Yemen, the ICRC said in a statement. He was on his way to visit a prison this morning when he was attacked on the outskirts of Taiz, the statement said. He was taken to hospital and died from his injuries
The United Nations also condemned the “unjustified” killing of Lahoud. “Parties to the conflict are obliged under international humanitarian law to do everything possible to protect civilians and ensure they have the assistance they need to survive,” U.N. Human Coordinator for Yemen Lise Grande said
Ansar Allah also condemned the criminal act that targeted a member of the Red Cross while performing his humanitarian work in Taiz Province, saying ” “the Saudi-led coalition, which supports and sponsors criminal murder groups, is fully responsible for the crime that took place in Taiz and caused the death of one foreign official”
The head of the Human Rights and Legal Department of the Political Bureau of Ansar Allah, Abdul Wahab al-Mahbashi called on international organizations, the Human Rights Council and the International Commission of Human Rights to distinguish between the reality of the state in Sana’a and in the Saudi-held provinces where Saudi-paid militias and criminal groups are present, calling on humanitarian and international organizations to be vigilant and not to rely on groups in the occupation zones for they support the condition of security chaos and wars
