President Mahdi Al-Mashat Sworn in as New Yemeni President

Member of the Supreme Political Council, Mahdi Al-Mashat, sworn on Wednesday at the only parliament in Yemen as the new President after former President Saleh al-Sammad was assassinated by the Saudi-led coalition.
Following the swearing-in ceremony, President Al-Mashat delivered a speech before the parliament’s Speaker and members, during which he extended his sincere condolences to all Yemeni people on the loss of the martyred President al-Sammad.
The president confirmed that by assassinating al-Sammad, the Saudi regime and its allies committed a mistake that is going to cost them a lot.
“This enemy has chosen an open war,” Al-Mashat said, affirming that martyrdom of Al-Sammad boosted the strong will and steadfastness of the Yemeni people,” he said.
“The enemy exacerbates its mistakes, confiscates the decision of war from its hands, and doubles the size of similarities between him and his allies from Al-Qaeda and Daesh in thought, behavior, concept, practice, brutality and ugliness,” he added.
Al-Mashat held the US administration responsible for the crimes committed by the Saudi regime and its allies under its supervision and sponsorship, including the killing of the president Al-Sammad, which according to international law is a political assassination and a violation of the sovereignty of the Yemeni people.
He also affirmed that the martyred president’s project “A hand builds and another protects” would continue taking place in the coming phase, expressing his thanks for the confidence of the parliament’s speaker and members.
Concluding his speech, the president called on Yemeni people to unite efforts at the official and popular levels in order to assume the responsibility and overcome challenges to build a bright future.
