The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has condemned the massive air raids on the densely populated neighborhoods of Sana’a since the beginning of this week that have claimed the lives of many civilians.

The committee confirmed that at least five civilians, including a child, were killed and dozens injured following raids by the Saudi-led coalition, which targeted the area near the presidential office in Sana’a on Monday (May 7th).

Heavy explosions rocked the night before Al-Erdhi, another densely populated area in Sana’a, near the historic Sana’a Old City. Residents of the area reported severe damage to property and civilian infrastructure.

“The sound was terrible,” says Abu Mohammed, a father of five and a resident of the neighborhood. I have not heard such a sound before. I had so much fear that I did not know how to calm down my sick wife with diabetes and my daughters who were terrified. ”

“It is sad that civilians in Yemen are always paying the high price of this conflict, which has no end in sight,” said Robert Mardini, regional director for the Near East and Middle East region, who is currently visiting Yemen.

“We will continue in the ICRC to urge all parties to the conflict to respect the laws of war and take all possible precautions to protect the lives of civilians,” he said.
