The South Korean Foreign Minister stressed the need for greater international dealing with the Yemeni crisis and other humanitarian crises in the world.
A source at the South Korean Foreign Ministry told reporters on Saturday that the government had provided about one million dollars to support Yemen annually and raised the amount to 4 million since last year, pointing out that the support targeted 22 million Yemenis, who represent two-thirds of the population.
The source stressed that South Korea adopts a position in favor of political solution and dialogue in the Yemeni crisis.
South Korea has seen a large influx of refugees from Yemen to the Korean island of Jeju, which has sparked controversy among Koreans about how to deal with them and their impact on society on the island.
Last Wednesday, the authorities banned the entry of the Yemenis to the island and imposed a visa. The South Korean authorities said the number of Yemenis on the island was 561, and as at the end of last month, 519 of them had applied for asylum.
