The Yemeni Foreign Ministry on Wednesday called for the formation of an independent international commission to investigate crimes committed by the states of the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen since 26 March, 2015.

In a statement, the ministry strongly condemned the continued crimes and assaults of the coalition warplanes against civilians, the latest of which was the targeting of a bus carrying displaced people in Hodeidah province, which left nine people killed and an additional 11 injured.

The statement confirmed that the silence of the international community is what stimulated the coalition to continue committing such humanitarian violations and massacres against the Yemeni people.

“These crimes are aimed to obstruct the peace efforts currently exerted by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, to end the aggression and lift the siege imposed on Yemen for the fourth year in a row,” read the statement.

The statement called on the United Nations, the Security Council, and human rights organizations to faithfully bear their responsibilities in order to protect civilians and to condemn such flagrant violations of international humanitarian laws committed by the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.
