UN Coordinates for Yemeni Talks in Geneva Next Month

The United Nations has invited the Supreme Political Council in Sanaa and the coalition-backed Hadi government to participate in the Geneva peace talks, which were called by UN envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, on September 6, UN spokeswoman, Alessandra Vellucci,said on Friday.

This came during a press conference held by Vellucci at the United Nations headquarters in New York, without mentioning any other parties that were aspiring to representation in the upcoming Geneva negotiations.

“I can confirm that the Office of the Special Envoy sent out invitations to the governments of Yemen, UN spokeswoman Alessandra Vellucci told reporters.

UN special envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths has said the talks will be aimed at charting a path forward to revive UN-backed negotiations which broke down in 2016.
