Head of the Supreme Revolutionary Committee, Mohammed al-Houthi, has welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire announced by the UN special envoy to Yemen, which stipulated that it would begin at the first hour of Tuesday.
“Peace has been the first choice of the Yemeni people from the very beginning,” Mohammed Ali al-Houthi said in a message on Monday, adding that it is clear that the right of self-defense was necessary in order to confront the aggression against Yemen.
“Sticking to the agreements is the real test for the seriousness of peace now,” he said.
The Supreme Revolutionary Committee chief affirmed that any decision that would not stop the aggression or the famine resulting from it, would be a circumvention of peace in Yemen.
“This is also a showcase of the world’s rejection of the horrific crimes [committed by the Saudi-led coalition], which places the organizers and endorsers of these crimes as the enemies of human peace”, he added.
“The United Nations looks forward to strong support from the Security Council through a draft resolution on Yemen prepared by the British delegation,”
Mohamed al-Houthi quoted the UN Secretary-General’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric as saying in his statement.
