The former French ambassador to Yemen, Gilles Gaultier, revealed that the Yemeni government in the era of the former Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh admitted to him during his period in Yemen that they deliberately claimed Iran’s support for the Houthi Ansar Allah group to justify the wars they waged against Saada province.

“During the Saada wars of 2003-2009, the Interior Minister met with the government of Ali Abdullah Saleh to discuss the war,” Gaultier said in an interview with France 24 on Tuesday.

He added that the Yemeni minister at the time told him that they in the government claim that the war on Saada under the pretext of Iran’s support for the Ansar Allah Houthis and that the government has no evidence of Iranian support for the group.

The French ambassador did not specify the name of the Yemeni minister, but he punished the Ministry of Interior during the period of the wars of Saada between 2003 and 2009, two ministers Rashad Al-Alimi followed by Mutahar Rashad al-Masri and the last from 2007 to 2012.
