General Joseph Votel, commander of U.S. Central Command, on Sunday said that his country’s forces would continue to support the war coalition led by Saudi Arabia against Yemen.
“We continue to support the Saudi-led coalition, and in particular to help it with precision targeting and reduce the risk of civilian casualties,” said Gen. Votel in an interview with France Press Agency (AFP) on sidelines of the International Defence Exhibition (Idex) in Abu Dhabi.
He added “We continue to focus on defeating al-Qaeda and Daesh (ISIS) organization, and we are still fully prepared to do what is necessary in this regard.”
The US forces have been supporting the Saudi-led military coalition in Yemen since 2015 against Sanaa government.
“At the time we redeploy, we continue our mission of neutralizing Daesh organization and working with our partners in the region to do that,” the military official said in response to a question in this regard.
To date, the Saudi-led coalition has displaced hundreds of thousands of people from their homes, towns and villages, caused outbreaks of infectious diseases and famine in some areas, and wrought significant destruction of Yemen’s infrastructure.
The Unjust siege, the continuous bombardment, the stifling crisis and all that caused by the war waged by Saudi-led coalition against Yemen in general and Hodeidah province in particular, have created a tragic environment for malnourished children, which has affected Yemeni children in the first place and the society as whole in all its categories.
