Head of National Delegation to UN Envoy: Pro-aggression Party Seeks to Stop Any Peace Progress

The head of the National Delegation, Mohamed Abdulsalam, met today in the Omani capital of Muscat, the special envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen Martin Griffith and the accompanying team.

They discussed during the meeting the political, humanitarian and economic situation, as well as the efforts to overcome obstacles hindered by Hadi and the government of Riyadh. The talked about the progress in Hodeidah and the unilateral redeployment in ports.

In the meeting, they discussed the economic escalation being carried out by Saudi Arabia and the government of Riyadh and the impact on exchange rates, the stability of the market and the lives of citizens.

Abdulsalam pointed out that the unilateral redeployment is supposed to be a motive for entering into a comprehensive political settlement in particular, and that the other party seeks to block any progress as it has hindered in advancing the Hodeidah agreement and worked on escalating violations.

Abdulsalam said that the National team is ready to continue working on the files agreed upon in Sweden, which include the truce in Taiz and the release of all prisoners and detainees.

He stressed that the obstacles and fabrication of justifications is a style Riyadh’s government has adopted, which does not want any progress in any political solution. He pointed out that the economic escalation carried out by Saudi Arabia and the government of Riyadh as a collective punishment threatens millions of Yemenis.

Abdulsalam confirmed that the importance of benefiting from the initiative presented by the Supreme Political Council, which represents a practical implementation of Sweden’s understandings in the economic file and is in the interest of citizens to pay salaries if the United Nations and the international community help to enforce them based on promises made in previous consultations.
