The US President Donald Trump said the United States does not need to protect Strait of Hormuz, after it became an oil exporter and does not need the Strait to obtain oil,
He stressed that the US would not guard it for countries that he described as rich, for free.
“The United States is fighting for all of these countries, and it costs us a lot, but some of those countries are very rich,” Trump told a gathering of students, speaking about his participation in the G20 summit.
“All tankers in that region are Chinese, China imports 65 percent of the oil across the straits, and Japan imports 25 percent,” he said.
“We have been doing police functions for decades to protect all those countries,” he added.
“Why do we play the role of a f policeman or rich China and rich Japan, and we also play the role of a policeman for friendly countries like Saudi Arabia, the UAE and others,” Trump said.
But why we do that? Why are our warships there?” he asked.
“We protect large numbers of people even in situations where we don’t have to do it,” Trump concluded.
