WHO Warns of Healthcare Collapse in Gaza Amid Ongoing Conflict
The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed the near-total destruction of healthcare services in the Gaza Strip due to a devastating war that has continued for over 14 months.
In a statement issued last night, the WHO highlighted the critical challenges in providing medical aid, stating, “Efforts to deploy medical missions have been delayed due to ongoing airstrikes.” The organization further revealed that daily requests to the occupying authority for permission to deliver aid have been met with refusal.
Despite these obstacles, the WHO emphasized its relentless attempts to deliver much-needed medical assistance to Gaza.
According to data from the Gaza Government Media Office, the war, which began on October 7, 2023, has caused extensive damage to the region’s healthcare infrastructure. Thirty-four hospitals and 80 health centers have been rendered inoperable, while 136 ambulances have been targeted.
The situation underscores the growing humanitarian crisis, as medical facilities struggle to function amidst continuous bombardments and restricted access to aid.
